Personal Development
We build each student’s curriculum around their individual needs, focusing on the personal development and key life skills they may find challenging. This tailored approach allows us to support their growth in a meaningful, practical way. We value these personal skills just as highly as formal qualifications, recognising that both are essential for life beyond the academy.

Skills for Work and Life
- Core Employability Skills: Students learn the behaviours and habits that employers value: reliability, communication, teamwork, problem‑solving, time‑keeping and taking responsibility. These skills are taught through real tasks, not worksheets.
- Positive Work Ethic: We help young people understand what it means to show up well, being prepared, staying focused, finishing tasks, and taking pride in their work. They learn that effort, attitude and consistency matter.
- Understanding How to Be Happy at Work: We explore what makes a workplace feel safe, enjoyable and motivating. Students learn how to manage stress, communicate needs, build positive relationships and recognise what helps them feel settled and successful.
- Working Well With Others: Through group challenges, outdoor activities and shared responsibilities, students practise listening, cooperating, resolving conflict and supporting their peers, skills that shape how they’ll work with colleagues in the future.
- Transferable Life Skills: Everything we teach is designed to be used beyond the academy: confidence, resilience, independence, self‑management and the ability to adapt to new situations.

Where Young People Build Confidence, Habits and Self‑Belief
Personal Development at the academy gives learners the everyday skills and mindset they need to feel capable, motivated and ready for what comes next.
Many young people arrive with low confidence, difficulty working with others, anxiety around expectations or a lack of positive experiences in learning or work‑style environments. Through real tasks, shared responsibilities and steady support, they begin to understand what they can achieve.
Personal Development at the academy specifically supports:
